“ The six of us had a wonderful dinner here. We had three starters - fish stew, risotto and mussels - were all superb! The two fish mains - the trout and cod- were tantalising. Pork belly was delicious and the chicken tender. A good place for dinner, especially if you crave a traditional English meal. ”
“ We had a Sunday roast here and the food was fantastic. We both went for the pork and it was succulent with generous amounts of crackling. Everything on the plate was seasoned perfectly, and the rice pudding dessert was the best I've ever had. It seems like a lot of thought and love goes into their food, like with the best home cooked meals. ”
“ Booked for lunch and what a wonderful experience. The beef was cooked to perfection and no fatty bits(which always annoys me when chewing) There was an abundance of vegetables and proper horseradish sauce. Everything just tasted great and the way it should do. The treacle tart was just as delicious and served with a sorbet. A small venue but with amazing food and plenty of atmosphere. Congratulations to the chef. ”
“ It's hard not to love this place. It's very charming, the menu changes on a daily basis, the quality of the cooking is good, it has interesting dishes on the menu including lots of options for those who are vegetarians and the prices are very reasonable. We enjoyed our lunch although not everything was absolutely perfect. The star dish was the chicken thighs with gnocchi, it was tasty and well balanced. The mussels were excellent, high quality ingredient which was perfectly cooked and well seasoned but needed something else to go with it, like chips or a good sourdough that can soak up the lovely sauce. The trout was lovely but came on a bed of salad that wasn't as good as the fish. There were no side dishes on the menu which was a shame. We will definitely return to try again on another day and a different menu. The locals love this place and I can understand why. ”
“ This was the best meal out I have had in a long time! The food was very reasonably priced and very generous portions. I had the roasted butternut squash with barley, dauphinoise potatoes and tender stem broccoli. It was truly phenomenal. We went there to celebrate a new job, SO glad we did. Don't be fooled by a humble exterior, this restaurant is a true dedication to excellent flavours and really expertly crafted meals that would rival any fancy restaurant. The marmite butter with the focaccia was one of the best things we'd ever eaten. ”
“ Wow- a simple word which means 1000 fabulous things. Amazing quality ingredients, so fresh and flavourful. We both went for the roast beef and the variety of bits that came with it was great. We were absolutely stuffed afterwards- there were 4 roasties, which for Bristol roasts these days is impressive! Can’t wait to return!! ”
“ One of the best pork belly sandwiches I’ve ever had—and I’ve had quite a few. I came here for lunch and, although the food took a little while to prepare, it was absolutely worth the wait. The pork belly was perfectly cooked: crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside, with just the right balance of richness and seasoning. I also had a dessert, which was simply excellent—sweet, but not overly so, and very satisfying. I’ll definitely be coming back to try more dishes from the menu. ”
“ Visited for Sunday lunch. Been on my radar for a while and it did not disappoint. The cauli cheese was heavenly, very generous meat portion ”
